Denotation and Connotation
Denotation: A boy is standing next to a clay wall and on top of it is white text. Also there is the company's logo in the top left corner.
Connotation: The advert has the boy wearing a blue shirt and the company's logo is blue. The connotation of blue suggests sadness as they are aiming for the audience to feel sympathy for the boy. Also the white slogan "Dig toilets Not graves" can empathise the innocence of the boy and how he has no clue of what's happening in the world around him.
Analysis: The advert makes the audience want to donate money to help boys like him as they might pity him. In addition they would imagine themselves in the boys situation which will make them more committed to donate.
Denotation: The 7 members of BTS are taking a group selfie and all of them are smiling. There is black writing on top of a white background separating it from the members of BTS.
Connotation: This advert shows us bold black writing on the right side which is presenting the collaboration between Samsung and the worlds biggest boy band BTS. The connotations of bold, black writing suggests that they want it to stand out showing how much power there is to the company and BTS. As well as this, the bright clothes BTS are wearing can indicate how joyful and positive there are by taking a photo with the new Samsung Galaxy.
Analysis: This advert could convince the audience to buy the phone as they will feel a sense of happiness just by looking at the advert and would want to experience the same kind of feeling. As well as this they might want to try taking selfies with friends as they've been influenced by the actions of BTS.
