“The internet has given audiences much more power than ever before.” To what extent do you agree with this statement?

 

Due to the past few years, I believe the audiences’ position has changed leading then to have gained a lot of power over the internet. Nonetheless, the rise of power hasn’t affects the multimillion industries, who have obtained more than enough money and followers to keep their position. This is shown by the diffrent ways the audience has been able to keep or loose their power.

 

In the Music Industry, the changes that have impacted of the industries success are due to YouTube. This gives the audience a great amount of power as they are able to access free music, these opportunities can help audience stream their favourite songs on the apps Spotify and Sound cloud. This implies that there’s a wide variety of audiences from around the word who watch different types of music making popular global music industries such as k-pop earn more fans. As well as this, the audiences’ impacts the next big music star due to the power they hold, this means anyone could have the career of a music star as they would need the help of audience to boost their fame.

However, the disadvantages of the power the audience have over the Music Industry is that most viewers illegally download their music leading them to share their file making it harder for record companies to make money. This could make the music produced loose its quality, connecting to the band or artist struggling to make money due to views no buying their music. As well as this, it is unclear if the artists use apps such as auto tune to increase their fame by using artificial voices making a debate among the audience on whether its fake, leading to them having less power.

On the other hand, the film and television has been impacted by the world wide app Netflix. This is a successful platform that contains many movies and series giving the audience the power as it already has over a hundred million subscribers. This gives the audience the opportunity to binge watch any show with a HD quality as well as this it’s globally accessible on multiple devises and platforms showing how much power the audience contain. In addition, live streaming is now available for a variety of content and now films are on demand due to the audience using their power to impact what new movies should be made.

Nerveless, apps like Netflix could make traditional TV channels struggle for money or even put them out of business leading to the channels producing lower quality content and losing their creativity. This could make it difficult for the producers to control who access TV and films which makes the audience loose the power that they have due to regulations. This could also be backed up by audience members illegally downloading this content and sharing the file which makes it harder for producers to get the money they deserve ending them up with no opportunities for new content due to lack of money.

The newspaper industries have notices that the younger generation have no need in buying newspapers which lead to audience being able to access news online. This gives audience so much power as they believe anyone could become a journalist meaning that anyone with a phone has the power to change the world influencing others. As well as this, the news is free which saves people money for paying for newspapers and its instant so no citizen has to wait to get important news. With the technology today, people are able to livestream where others will be able to witness the news for themselves gaining them power over what others will be able to believe.

However, the disadvantages can affect the power the audience holds as people could be posting fake news confusing others as theirs no proof if it's true. The quality of news has fallen due to the producers not getting paid as people find the news themselves and put it online free so anyone can access it. As well as this, you may not be able to become a journalist as you may not be able to have internet which leads to you not posting anything and it not being there for others to see. This makes others think that the audience have lost the power they once had giving off a fake impression on what the views can or cant do.

To conclude I would like to agree to the statement to some extent this is beacuse I believe that the power people hold depends on the situation they are in. This could range from audience having the power to watch something for free from them loosing it due to companies loosing their money. This means that even if the internet has evolved massively the power that is in the hands of the audience will always have some downfalls.
