1) How have our music listening habits changed since 1960?

Since 1960, our music listening habits have changed as we consume radio in a variety of different ways whereas back in the 1960 people only had a chunky radios. As well as this, radio can be consumed live or on catch up unlike 1960 where it was only available at certain times.

2) When did Apple Beats 1 Radio launch and what is it?

Apple Beats Radio 1 was launched in 2015 where people were able to stream different genres of music any time. Apple beats Radio 1 works mostly with indie and rap.

3) What is the difference between Beats 1 Radio, iTunes and Apple Music?

iTunes is a virtual music store as well as a digital library and other media products. Whereas Beats 1 Radio is an intentional-based global station. Apple music is all based on music however, you don't own the music you listen to.

4) Why was Apple so keen to enter the online music world and compete with Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music (and others)?

Apple was so keep to enter the online music world and compete with Spotify, Deezer and Amazon music because they gained more control of the streaming market as they were loyal to iTunes.

5) Why did Apple choose the three selected DJ's for launch? 

Apple choice to select the three selected DJ's for the launch as they will bring their own fan base and bring their reputation. This means that Apple would be able to become more popular and successful,.

6) How does the use of DJ's differ from Spotify, Amazon Music and other streaming services? 

The DJ's differ from other streaming services as its interviews between popular artists with exclusive deals towards Apple.

7) How does the content of the Julia Adenuga show differ from Radio 1? 

The content of Julia Adenuga differ from Radio 1 as it makes the audience feel as if their listening to a comfortable and informal conversation between two best friends. There's a lot more positive and friendly topics and speech.

8) Why does Beats 1 radio give Apple the power to make or break new artists? Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the music industry?

Beats 1 gives Apple the power to make or break new artists as they have big fans and influence a lot of people to follow them so if they dislike or somehow like the artist their actions and attitude towards them cane show the audience if they should stan them or not. This can both be a good and bad thin for the industry as they are able to get rid of rude artists who can destroy and affect other artists badly. However, they could accidentally brake innocent artists which could cause chauos.

9) Read the BBC feature on the launch of Apple Beats 1 Radio. Did the industry experts think it would be a success? Why?

The industry experts thought it would be successful, this was because they were quite excited to have 3 major DJ's come together and entertain on one of the biggest worldwide radio stations, BBC. They believes that people would be especially intrigued by the way the DJ's introduce new artists or popular songs in such a interesting way that the audience would enjoy.

10) Give arguments for and against the idea that Beats 1 will be a threat to traditional media industries (e.g. radio stations, record shops, online music retailers etc.) 

Beats 1 will be a threat towards traditional media industries as more and more people would believe that instead of wasting money they would be able to stream and have a library full of their favourite songs online. This would mean that radios and CDs bought in stores would be bought less and would slowly disappear from this world. Radio stations would become more listen to as people would trust and believe that the DJ's would recommend good music.

Audience

1) Who is the target audience for Beats 1 and Julia Adenuga in particular? Refer to demographics and psychographics.

The target audience for Beats 1 are young people under the age of 15 they aim for this however, more older people over the age of 20 listen to the radio more this is because the younger generation tend to use apps like Spotify to discover their own music taste. A more middle class would listen to the DJ's as they would trust and believe what they would say.

2) Why do people listen to Beats 1? Which aspects of Blumler and Katz’s Uses and Gratifications theory relate to Beats 1 and its audience?

People would listen to Beats 1 as it uses entertainment to show its a global music station on for 24 hours, the music presented or listen to by the audience. Personal identity is also portrayed as music is a huge part of our identity as it shows what kind of person we are. In addition, the three DJ's are trusted a lot by the audience as they believe that they would recommend them the best music, this shows the type of relationship the have with them. This can be also seen as surveillance as the DJ's continuously give music for the audience to explore and listen to.

3) Can the audience actively interact with the Apple Beats 1 Radio or are they passive when listening? How? Give examples. 

The audience can actively interact with Apple Beats 1 as they give song recommendations or feedback towards the DJ's and they reply showing the interaction between them. As well a this, they can also be passive when listening as the audience trust and believe that the DJs wont let them down and hand them great music.

4) Is Apple Beats 1 aimed at a mass or niche audience? How does this differ to BBC Radio 1?

Apple Beats 1 is aimed at a niche audience as they mostly experts in grime and indie music due to the areas they spent their childhood as this music choice is more one sided showing their audience a small amount of music around the world. On the other hand BBC Radio 1 is seen as a more mainstream as it targets a more wider range of people from across the world showing the divers music played and the fans who have been attracted.

5) Do you think Apple Beats 1 radio will be popular with young audiences or are streaming services the future of audio-based media?

I believe that Apple Beats 1 will not be popular with younger audience as during this era they don't prefer radio which gives no chance for radio in the fur. Streaming supervises like Spotify would grow even more popular as young audience really enjoy listening to the music they found themselves by exploring which shows that  audio-based media will take over and destroy radio complexly by attracting more and more audience.
