Media assessment learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full - WWW & EBI. You do not have to write your mark and grade if you don't want to.

WWW-There is clear potential here: your Galaxy/narrative question is excellent. I also appreciate that you didn't take the assessment when everyone else did which may had an impact.

EBI: Two key areas work on: firstly, the unseen text. Practise your media analysis and revise terminology. Secondly, revise social class and the magazine CPS. This will help with questions that focus on social and cultural context of British Society.

Total=20  =Grade 5

2) Look at Question 3 in the assessment - the media analysis of the Under Armour advert.

Use CLAMPS to revise mise-en-scene and write about each element of CLAMPS for the Under Armour advert. E.g.:

C - Costume: The player is wearing red and black rugby kit which has connotations of a dark and crimson blood war where the battle field is swarming with solders fighting for their country.

L - Lighting: The stadium floodlights tell the audience about the contrast between light and dark showing how this sportswear will be able to light up your path for exercise/working out.

A - Actor placement and movement: The rugby player seems to be in the middle using all his strength in order to push a certain object aside. The player's face suggests his will to uses his strength in order to push the object aside.

M - Make up: The player's face is shining under the lights which makes it look like the sports wear has given him strength and made him have a realisation on what he should do.

P - Props: The tyre is significant because they are using a heavy object to present to the audience how the man is able to lift is signifying that the sports wear is like magic strength.

S - Setting: the stadium setting suggests to the audience the product of the advertisement as a stadium would instantly make the audience think about a range of sports which helps to sell their product.

The mark scheme will also help with identifying additional points you could have made in Q3.

3) Look at Question 4. What is Todorov's theory of equilibrium? How does it link to the Audrey Hepburn Galaxy advert?

Todorov's theory of equilibrium is the chronological order of how a disaster occurs and the aftermaths. This is the equilibrium, disequilibrium and finally the new equilibrium. This links to the Audrey Hepburn Galaxy advert as it was able to portray the order of the disaster perfectly displaying Todorvo's theory of equilibrium.

4) What social class is Reveal aimed at? (Extension - what do the cover lines on Reveal suggest about what working class people are interested in?)

Reveal is aimed at a working class when people in London are more interested in cheaper magazines that contain gossip whether its true or not.

5) Pick three cover lines from Tatler that reflect upper class British culture and society. Explain what they suggest about the lifestyle and beliefs of upper class British people.

"Oops all my clothes fell off"
"You wont sleep much but it will be fun"
"She looks good in pearls"

These three cover lines suggest that upper class British people are more likely to be attracted to more expensive and new clothing that would make them stand out and improve their status. This could also project how they are following the latest trend to fit in to society's standards.. They are believed to follow traditional and have old rules that have slowly altered over time. Even though they have aa high standard, they are just like the working class and enjoy a bit of gossip.
