Statement of Intent final draft

-Narrative: The flower ‘Purple Hyacinth’ symbolises peace and sorrow. In this TV show an alien named Queen Sackik has inhabited Earth who ends up befriending the protagonist Kaina. However, the vigorous female protagonist has sworn to kill every Sackik soldier that has infiltrated Earth leaving their friendship to be a long and rough journey.

I intend to meet the brief by having two locations for the two-minute ending that includes two characters who will be introduced as Queen Sackik and Kaina. Diegetic sound will be used through each scene in order to make it more realistic for the audience. Furthermore, non-diegetic sound will reinforce the genre of science fiction as well as making the setting appear more intense. There will be a range of camera shots, the main ones that will be included are wide shots to reveal the background and actions of the characters, extreme close-up that communicates the emotions projected by the characters and details on important objects, finally, over the shoulder to display both characters however only presenting the protagonists appearance to include mystery. The narrative resolution will be shown at the end of the two minutes where Kaina accepts Queen Sackik as a friend displaying the character development. Propp’s character theory will be used to identify the protagonist Kaina and the antagonist Queen Sackik who then team up and both become the heroes.

These two characters will challenge typical stereotypes of women being seen as frail as they are written to appear strong and influential who are capable of enduring difficult situations by defending themselves. This can be seen at the beginning where Kaina refuses Queen Sackiks help and decides to be independent in defeating the Sackik army. My cast will also have people that show modern Britain diversity and people who are not commonly seen in shows. This will be done by having my main character acted by a hijabi who will also subvert stereotypes where the protagonist is commonly a white male. As well as this, the story will also include BSL where Queen Sackik is an alien unable to speak resulting in her learning sign language.

My target audience will be older teenagers and young adults who are female to reflect society and how science fiction is associated more with women. They will come from a working-class family and enjoy TV genres that combine both science fiction and fantasy and will be easily attracted to action and drama as well as appreciate the sensation of suspense scenes. Audience pleasure will also be present throughout the show such as:

-Diversion/entertainment- audience will be able to escape their normal lives and enjoy being entertained.

-Relationships- audience will also form strong bonds with the character Kaina after understanding her backstory and reasons for her actions.

-Visceral pleasure- physical thrill of watching the chase scene with Kaina and where she bumps into Queen Sackik.

-Vicarious pleasure- experiencing the friendly character develop between Kaina and Queen Sackik who used to despise each other.
