OSP & Videogames: An introduction

 1) What were the first videogames like?

Videogames in the beginning were 2D and simple while not being complicated in order for families to access at home. They were less popular among people as they were new to the idea to gaming.

2) How have videogames changed over time?

Over the years games have improved from their graphics to the storyline and game play. Everyone can access games if its at home or outside at an arcade, It has become a normal way to entertain yourself and many teens enjoy the idea of getting distracted by the games. 

3) What do the most successful games have in common? Answer this in as much detail as you can. Think about audience pleasures - what do people like about playing videogames?

The most successful games are thought out and attract a wide variety of audience. Entertainment/ diversity- the audience is able to be distracted from their everyday life.
Information- Survival games help the audience understand and learn the basics of surviving (making fire).
Visceral pleasure- Having physical thrill when in combat or against an enemy.

4) What criticisms have been made towards videogames?

The criticism toward videogames are the stereotypical male leads or the sexualised female leads. This leads to conflict and hate towards the game and their creator.

There were 200m Fortnite players worldwide.

2) Why is it so popular? What are the audience pleasures of the game?

Fortnite is popular due to it being a survival games that contain violent weapons for defence this games has reached a range of audience who enjoy the game play.

3) Why might some people criticise Fortnite?

Fortnite is like many other violent RPG games that include the same rules but different maps that all have one goal. Some may say it has been copied due to may other similar games.

"Great well rounded article. I’ve tried it a couple of times but the lack of RPG progression style elements meant I didn’t feel an incentive to keep playing. I can see why other people love it though!"

-i agree with this comment as Fortnite is made like many other gun RPG games where its the basic aspect of playing games which includes killing the other opponents. The audience don't get to experience something new and are stuck with the same rounds over and over again.

"I played it a bit, especially as nieces and nephews asked me to play with them. I found the lack of any form of profession a bit lacking but the thing I found difficult is the part that I regarded as most important seemed to let it down and that was the gunplay."

- i disagree with this comment as many games are developed for more younger audience like teens and the fact that this person had their nieces and nephews introduce them to the game shows that this person is much older and doesn't understand that the gunplay was purposely made less violently for teens and not for adults.
